December 13, 2013
Every year the Toy Retailers’ Association list the toys it expects to be the most wanted at Christmas and this year is no different. We’ve rounded up the top 10 from the list and most importantly where you can buy them, making sure you don’t get caught out in a last minute stampede on Christmas Eve.
The Top 10 Toys for Christmas 2013 (in order of price)
Monopoly Empire
Available at Tesco Direct for £15
It’s rare to not have a board game on the top toys for Christmas lists and this year we’re graced with the timeless classic that is Monopoly. The Empire addition features top brands such as Coca Cola, Samsung and McDonald’s rather than property streets, allowing you to build up your own brand empire.
Doc McStuffins Doctor's Bag Set
Available at Argos (collection only) for £19.99
This little doctor’s bag is perfect for any budding doctors, complete with a themoter, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and stickers. Very sparkly and certain to bring a smile a Christmas day.
Robo Fish Aquarium Play Set
Available at Play.com for £26
The Robo Fish is the second artificial pet in our list and is set to be the biggest selling toy globally of 2013. The Aquarium kit includes everything needed to get starting and you can then continue to add to it with more robotic fish that will swim around the tank (activated by water) just like real fish.
Flutterbye Pink Flying Fairy Doll
Available at TheToyshop.com (the Entertainer online) for £29.99
The Flutterbye Fairy Doll will bring wonder to any child’s face as she magically takes off and flies, controlled simply by moving your hands. A great alternative to a standard RC helicopter.
Nerf N-Strike Elite Rapidstrike CS-18
Available at Sainsbury’s for £39.99
Nerf is another familiar brand on the Christmas toys list and the 2013 version is more powerful than ever, offering a range of up to 75 feet. Batteries are needed so make sure you stock up to avoid disappointment after Christmas day.
LEGO City Coast Guard Patrol
Available at JohnLewis.com for £53.99
It wouldn’t be a top toys list without LEGO being included and this year we see the coast guard patrol range as the favourite this Christmas. This particular kit includes a dinghy, patrol boat and helicopter, together with a few stranded people to rescue and some sharks to add to the inherent danger.
Furby Boom!
Available at Toys R Us for £54.99
The Furby is back again this year after gaining popularity in 2012 since it’s spell out of the spotlight. It’s set to be a sell-out this Christmas with new features added, interactivity with the free app and a huge choice of colours to choose from.
VTech InnoTab 3S
Available at Amazon.co.uk for £58.99
The latest version of the InnoTab by VTech is jam packed with features including a 5 inch touchscreen, 2MP camera, WiFi and bonus games. It’s certainly a cheaper alternative to having to give up your iPad!
Teksta Robotic Puppy
Available at Littlewoods for £60
Forget having to get a real puppy this Christmas, the Teksta Robotic Puppy is at the forefront of artificial intelligence and will respond to both voices and physical gestures. It’ll even go to sleep when it gets dark and wake up with a wag in it’s tail.
LeapPad Ultra
Available at Boots.com for £88.99
40% more expensive than the VTech InnoTab 3S, the new LeapPad Ultra shouldn’t disappoint with access to hundreds of apps and educational games plus a larger 7 inch touchscreen.
